patterson building, stanly community college, albemarle, north carolina
chartered in 1971, stanly community college opened in temporary headquarters on old south albemarle high school campus same year. faculty of 8 instructors offered classes in auto mechanics, air conditioning , refrigeration, secretarial science, industrial management, brick masonry , business. in 5 months school grew 31 students 400, , discussions began possible construction of new campus.
construction on new campus began in 1974 , in october 1975 academic/administration building (now patterson building) , vocational shop building completed. latter structure has since undergone renovations , houses college’s student recreational room, cafeteria, , bookstore. in fall of 1998 renamed webb student center in honor of dr. h.t. webb, long-time college trustee. kelley building — named annie ruth kelley, first chair of college’s board of trustees — opened in 1981. college purchased 1960-era industrial training center in 1981. facility, renovated, known continuing education center. presently houses college’s vocational/industrial, public service/health, , corporate/professional development programs.
in 1987 new two-story classroom/lab building completed house college’s extensive allied health programs. next building on campus built much-needed library/classroom facility. completed in 1996, 27,000-square-foot building houses scc’s library , tv studio facilities on first floor , 7 classrooms , college’s north carolina information highway center on second floor. these buildings bear names of 2 albemarle residents long-time college supporters. allied health building renamed eddins building in honor of dr. george e. eddins, jr.
the learning resources center/classroom building named snyder building in honor of edward j. snyder, jr., former member of board of trustees , former member of north carolina state board of community colleges. newest building on main campus finished in 1999 , named whitley technology center in honor of elbert l. whitley, jr., member of scc board of trustees since 1977 , chairman since 1983. 10,000-square-foot facility home 6 state-of-the-art computer labs allow college offer latest technology courses , programs scc students.
in september 2003 satellite campus opened in locust, nc – crutchfield education center. 33,000-square-foot facility named edward e. crutchfield, stanly county native , retired ceo of wachovia bank. campus complete college in itself, faculty , staff office space, large modern classrooms, computer labs, health services , biology labs, conference room, bookstore, , distance learning classroom , media/resource center.
in june 2014 crutchfield education center became stanly community college s allied health signature campus. programs offered @ crutchfield education center include certified nursing assistant & ii, emt basic & paramedic, medical assisting, medical billing , coding, medical laboratory technology, multi-skilled nurse aide, nursing/associate degree , returning lpn, pharmacy technology, phlebotomy, radiography, respiratory therapy, , upcoming associate in applied science degree in emergency medical science.
once crutchfield education center became signature campus, of previous training relocated albemarle, such regional training in-service law enforcement taking place @ college s west main site. carolina auction academy continues 1 of exceptions health-field focus of crutchfield educational center, , still held in locust.
in october 2016 morton-moffitt cosmetology center opened on albemarle campus , open public.
