i-787 officially begins @ toll barrier i-87/thruway exit 23; however, short 0.57-mile (0.92 km) spur between u.s. route 9w (us 9w) , interchange connecting i-787 thruway, designated ny 912s, unsigned reference route, signed i-787. @ east end of interchange (exit 1) i-87, i-787 northbound merges ny 912s, progressing due east short distance before curving northeast ahead of delaware , hudson railway mainline near exit 2 (ny 32). past ny 32, i-787 parallels hudson river heads northward heart of downtown albany, featuring pair of exits us 9 , us 20 @ massive interchange southeast of empire state plaza on west bank of hudson.
