1912: intercounty highway 2 runs cleveland pennsylvania state line.
1923: route extended follow current 6 alignment indiana state line bryan, , current sr 51 , 20 toledo pennsylvania state line.
1926–1927: rerouted toledo cleveland along previous sr 23 alignment toledo port clinton, unnumbered route port clinton 2 miles (3.2 km) west of sandusky, , previous sr 12 2 miles (3.2 km) west of sandusky cleveland. cleveland-to-pennsylvania alignment certified 20.
1931: extended east willoughby along unnumbered route (st. clair).
1931–1932: western terminus shortened bryan, bryan indiana state line certified 6
1936: extended indiana state line via former sr 108 alignment hicksville bryan, , former sr 18 alignment indiana state line hicksville, dually certified along route until 1940.
1939: sr 18 alignment removed sr 2 alignment west of hicksville.
1939: route extended east lost nation road in willoughby.
1941: sr 2 west 6th east 9th moved lakeside avenue lakefront highway, later called cleveland memorial shoreway. lakeside certified sr 2 temporary.
1962: extended east sr 283 in painesville; euclid-to-painesville alignment upgraded freeway.
1967: 9 miles (14 km) west of sandusky 4 miles (6.4 km) west of sandusky upgraded freeway, , rerouted on bypass around sandusky on former 6 alignment.
1967: route extended current eastern terminus @ 20 in painesville township
1968: sr 163 9 miles (14 km) west of sandusky upgraded freeway.
1970: 2 miles (3.2 km) west of amherst sr 83 (sr 76 @ time) upgraded freeway; 4 miles (6.4 km) east of amherst sr 83 dually certified i-90.
1973–1975: oh 2 alt deleted discontinuous sections of route 2 moved 6 i-90.
1976: ceylon 2 miles (3.2 km) west of amherst upgraded freeway.
1977: sr 83 rocky river upgraded freeway , dually certified i-90.
august 30, 1990: huron ceylon upgraded freeway.
