on outbreak of first world war, regiment stationed @ shorncliffe part of 4th cavalry brigade. on mobilisation, brigade assigned cavalry division of british expeditionary force, , sent france. 4th brigade assigned 2nd cavalry division in october, remained remainder of war, serving on western front.
