having been spotted playing in summer of 2006 in scotland playing musselburgh windsor academy scout karl brady, renton began 2006–07 season in youth team. spent time away though, being named in ireland under 17s european under 17 championship qualifying tournament in baku in autumn 2006, made debut @ level scotland under 17s in february 2007 against northern ireland.


towards end of campaign, progressed reserves @ norwich, making debut on 21 february 2007 against local rivals ipswich. scored first goal second string on 24 april 2007 against southend.


early senior appearances

he named on bench first time on 31 march 2007 against colchester united. should have played, have broken ryan jarvis record norwich s youngest ever player, @ 16 years , 262 days. norwich academy manager ricky martin said renton s call first team provided massive incentive other players in youth side. city manager peter grant told club s website renton due make debut second-half substitute in colchester game, grant unwilling throw on debutant side struggling in course of 3–0 defeat.


he did make debut in 2–1 win @ leicester city coming on in injury time @ end of second half, on 14 april 2007, making him youngest ever player appear norwich city, beating jarvis record 6 days, aged 16 years 276 days. renton made full debut 3 days later @ burnley replacing injured darren huckerby, had hurt in warm up.


for start of 2007–08 season, renton playing reserves , under 18s, , scoring regularly. against chelsea under 18s on 6 october suffered broken leg, kept him out rest of season.


on 16 july 2008, having recovered broken leg kept him out of previous campaign, renton signed first professional contract norwich city, lasting 2 years. joined king s lynn on loan on 6 march 2009, gain more first-team experience, failed score in ten appearances.


during time norwich city renton affectionately known group of fans known as, barclay boys, as, capri kid, due fondness of classic ford car. still unknown if ever owned 1 picture of him sitting in red capri outside jarrold stand @ carrow road made him stuff of legend.


scottish junior football

in january 2010, released norwich city , returned hometown, joining scottish junior club musselburgh athletic. renton helped musselburgh scottish junior cup final in 2010–11 before joining east superleague champions bonnyrigg rose athletic in june 2012. moved on local rivals newtongrange star in july 2014.


cowdenbeath

in june 2016, renton signed relegated scottish league 2 side cowdenbeath.


alloa athletic

after impressing in performances cowdenbeath, renton signed scottish league 1 club alloa athletic on 1 june 2017.
