wooten drafted in fifth round (53rd overall) of 1959 nfl draft cleveland browns, play left guard next 9 seasons. during time, blocked hall of fame running jim brown, regarded 1 of top running backs in nfl history. brown led league in rushing 6 of 7 seasons wooten served 1 of blockers, , nfl valuable player in 1965 1,544 yards , league-best 21 touchdowns. browns defeated baltimore colts, 27–0, win 1964 nfl championship game. played in 1965 nfl championship game , lost green bay packers, 23–12. in 1979, named browns all-time all-star team. in 2010, wooten inducted browns ring of honor, browns legends program.

after retiring football, wooten worked short time sports agent. became director of pro scouting dallas cowboys 17 years, before joining philadelphia eagles vice president player personnel. in 1998, wooten became assistant director of pro , college scouting baltimore ravens until retirement in 2003.
