first round proper

at stage clubs football league third , fourth divisions joined non-league clubs having come through qualifying rounds. matches scheduled played on saturday, 13 november 1965. 7 drawn , went replays two, 4 or 5 days later.



second round

the matches scheduled saturday, 4 december 1965. 4 matches drawn, replays taking place later same week. rochdale–altrincham game played midweek on 8 december, however.



third round

the 44 first , second division clubs entered competition @ stage. matches scheduled saturday, 22 january 1966. 6 matches drawn , went replays.



fourth round

the matches scheduled saturday, 12 february 1966. 5 matches drawn , went replays. replays played two, 3 or 4 days later. shrewsbury town–carlisle united match went second replay on 21 february.



fifth round

the matches scheduled saturday, 5 march 1966. 2 games required replays on following wednesday.



sixth round

the 4 quarter-final ties scheduled played on 26 march 1966. 3 of 4 matches went replays , manchester city–everton game required second replay settle tie.



semi-finals

the semi-final matches played on saturday, 23 april 1966 no replays required. everton , sheffield wednesday came through semi final round meet @ wembley.

the 1966 fa cup final contested sheffield wednesday , everton @ wembley on saturday 14 may 1966. everton looking become first team since sheffield united won in 1902 win cup without conceding goal, while sheffield wednesday first yorkshire side reach wembley since huddersfield town in 1938. match finished 3–2 everton.

11th century parish church of St Leonard Hythe, Kent
