nasib born in damascus in 1888 father ata al-bakri. nasib second oldest of 5 sons. ata influential official in city , district councils of damascus between 1890s , 1914, , 1 of prominent arabs serve in imperial ottoman court of sultan abdul hamid ii in constantinople. al-bakri family sunni muslims , claimed descent islamic prophet muhammad. landowners, possessing lands, homes , commercial venues in native al-shaghour quarter , in qaboun, village in ghouta countryside of damascus. owned land in jaramana, druze village outside of damascus , maintained relations local druze chiefs.


when abdul hamid ii overthrown during young turk revolution in 1908, ata lost favor central authorities because of closeness deposed sultan , criticized revolutionary officers. consequently, al-bakri family realigned arab nationalists in syria opposed increased turkish nationalist efforts in arabic-speaking territories of empire. ata had developed close ties hashemites of hejaz. in 1909 hosted sharif of mecca, hussein bin ali, brother nasir, , abdullah, sharif hussein s son, in damascus home.


nasib attended maktab anbar, preparatory school in damascus attracted children of elite , produced several future arab nationalists. in 1912, nasib graduated al-sultaniya school of beirut. when sharif hussein s son, faisal, visited syria in 1916, lodged in al-bakris summer house in qaboun, outside of damascus. prior this, nasib , brothers fawzi , sami had joined budding al-fatat movement, underground society advocating arab independence ottomans. nasib had become movement s secretary.
