on november 19, 2009, church announced temple built on vine street in downtown philadelphia, directly northeast of logan circle. location places temple in immediate vicinity of several prominent philadelphia landmarks, , across street cathedral basilica of saints peter , paul, head church of roman catholic archdiocese of philadelphia.
ground broken temple on september 17, 2011. local community leaders present ceremonies presided on henry b. eyring, first counselor in church s first presidency. july 2012, no significant work had begun on temple contractor had not been found remove existing parking lot , start below ground excavation two-level parking garage. in november 2012, philadelphia art commission granted final approval temple design, despite members feeling building similar other buildings in vicinity in appearance. of parking lot on temple site had been removed february 2013, , may 2 year, underground digging building of temple had been completed. building framed full height august 2014.
