the m60 developed connecting , consolidating existing motorway sections of m63, m62, , extended m66. came existence m60 in 2000, completion of eastern side (junctions 19-24) opening in october.

the greater manchester congestion charge have affected drivers during peak times coming off m60 towards manchester rejected referendum on 12 december 2008.


work upgrade 2 sections of m60 managed motorway system had been planned commence in 2013. have included new lane junction 12 15 , new lane junction 8 12 near trafford centre. both these projects subsequently cancelled in favour of new project includes speed cameras on section no additional lane or hard-shoulder running. environmental assessment cited reason additional lane not provided. consequently, daily congestion on section expected continue indefinitely. combined approach initiated in 2014, comprising managed motorway system , lane gain scheme. work commenced in july 2014 , expected completed summer 2018.
