the historical society of japan founded on november 1, 1889 , began publishing historical journal entitled shigakkai zasshi (journal of historical society) on december 15 of same year. in 1892 name of journal changed shigaku zasshi. 2 professors of history @ tokyo imperial university, shigeno yasutsugu , ludwig rieß instrumental in founding society , beginning publication of journal. ludwig rieß consciously modeled journal on contemporary european historical journals such historische zeitschrift in germany, revue historique in france, , english historical review in england.


shigeno yasutsugu president of historical society of japan. president of society founding in 1889 until death in 1910. no successor has ever been appointed.

11th century parish church of St Leonard Hythe, Kent
