the old city hall of sombor jovan branković s mansion, south-eastern part still preserved in modern-day building.


after Đorđe branković s death in 1711, jovan branković joined serbian militia, unit of habsburg army active in military frontier of empire. distinguished himself in battles ottomans , rose through army ranks. in 1717 appointed commander of city of sombor. first mentioned count in treaty of passarowitz, signed in 1718 between ottomans , habsburgs. in same year, jovan began build mansion, turned city hall of sombor in 1749. south-eastern part of mansion still preserved in modern-day building. jovan married marija of kostić family, whom had daughter, jelena, born in 1721, , 2 sons: nikola born in 1729, , jovan born in 1733. jovan senior died of illness in 1734.
