as war ottoman empire increasingy became possibility in autumn of 1912, bulk of hellenic army gathered in thessaly, once again under crown prince constantine, comprising 4 peacetime infantry divisions , 3 newly formed reservists, cavalry brigade, , auxiliary units, total of 100,000 men, of ca. 80,000 effectives.


in course of first balkan war, army of thessaly overcame fortified ottoman positions along border in battle of sarantaporo , advanced north. despite setback of detached division in battle of sorovich, main army broke through ottoman defences @ battle of yenidje, forcing, after few days, surrender of thessaloniki , garrison. having effected union allied serbian , bulgarian armies, army of thessaly deactivated, units going reinforce epirus front , others settling along new demarcation line in macedonia.
