the recent expression of greater croatia arose in aftermath of breakup of yugoslavia. when multiethnic yugoslavian republic of bosnia , herzegovina declared independence in 1992, bosnian serb political representatives, had boycotted referendum, established own government of republika srpska, whereupon forces attacked republic of bosnia , herzegovina.


at beginning of bosnian war, croats , bosniaks formed alliance against yugoslav people s army (jna) , army of republika srpska (vrs). main croat army croatian defence council (hvo), , bosniak army of republic of bosnia , herzegovina (arbih). in november 1991, croatian community of herzeg-bosnia established autonomous croat territorial unit within bosnia , herzegovina.


the leaders of herzeg-bosnia called temporary measure during conflict serb forces , claimed had no secessionary goal. croatian defence forces (hos), paramilitary wing of croatian party of rights, supported confederation between croatia , bosnia , herzegovina, on basis of ndh. on time, relations between croats , bosniaks worsened, resulting in croat–bosniak war, lasted until 1994 , signing of washington agreement.
