drums in use today include: geta bera (bera drum), yak bera, davula, thammattama, udakkiya, bummadiya, hand rabana, bench rabana, , dandu beraya.
geta bera
this main drum used accompany dances in kandyan or hill country tradition. drum turned out of wood ehela, kohomba or kos tree. drum tapers towards ends , on right side, opening covered skin of monkey while opening on other side covered cattle skin. strings used tighten sides deer skin. student begins training in use of geta bera has practice twelve elementary exercises.
yak bera
this drum referred many names among ruhunu bera, devol bera , ghoskaya. drum accompanies dances low country, mask dancing connected rituals , folk play kolam. drum turned out of wood taken kohomba, ehela, kitul or milla trees. cylindrical drum, long , played on both sides hands. openings on 2 sides of drum covered stomach lining of cow. strings used tighten sides cattle skin. student has twelve elementary exercises learn play drum.
davula
this drum used in of buddhist ceremonies on island. drum cylindrical, shorter yak bera. important feature of drum 1 side played hand while other side played stick. sides covered cattle skin , tightening done string made specially purpose. these twelve elementary exercises followed person learning use drum.
thammattama
this referred twin drum. drum

udakkiya
this instrument 1 foot in length , shaped sand clock. udakkiya made carving either suriya or ahala timber 2 apertures. these apertures bound tightly leather of monkey or iguana , both sides connected tightly stretched twine. udakkiya played 2 sticks called walayan. pitch of sound can changed applying pressure on twine bound cloth.
dakkiya
this similar udekkiya, bigger. used rituals. drum hung on shoulder of player , sound controlled applying pressure on strings.
bummadiya
this drum turn out of clay. single opening covered skin of goat, monkey or iguana. drum hung on shoulder of player , played both hands. during harvesting, people seen playing drum accompanied singing. drum in shape of pot.
hand rabana
rabana 1 foot in diameter , turn out of wood kos , milla. skin used of goat. performers keep revolving rabana on tip of fingers while others play accompanied singing. played 1 hand t.
bench rabana
this biggest of drums used in sri lanka. special feature of drum is played @ time 2 or more people. use both hands. drum commonly used new year festivals , there many special rhythms played on them. played women.
