the population of town , area overwhelmingly khortha speaking, due migration of people other state people hindi speaking in town areas. there sprinkling of santhali-speaking population in rural areas. hindus form majority of population. there sizeable muslim population. punjabis form small minorities. hazaribagh upgraded municipal corporation in june 2015 adding area , population of 19 adjoining villages.
