ferruccio busoni prepared piano arrangement published in 1897 breitkopf & härtel. alan walker, liszt s biographer, said represents 1 of pinnacles of twentieth-century virtuosity. liszt @ least once performed own piano transcription, of walter bache, student, made account in 1862. liszt never seems have notated such version.


hugo kaun , wilhelm middelschulte created arrangement orchestra , organ. premiere on march 29, 1901, @ symphony center, chicago, conducted theodore thomas, middelschulte organist. marcel dupré created organ-orchestra arrangement.
