the paris production s splendid décor, ingenious round dances, , large , superbly schooled corps de ballet astonished , delighted audiences, had yet behold quite marvellous. while there nothing profound in ballet s theme, first time there integrated conception of costume, décor, properties, , movement subordinated development of stage picture, , theatre-goers attended see ballet such, not virtuoso in vogue. musical instruments such triangle , cymbal ( turkish music ) first introduced in ballet though not whether played in orchestra or used stage properties. costumes designed louis-rené boquet, forsook traditional ballet uniform of roman armour applied bits of chinese decoration full-scale , realistic chinese costumes. décor created guillet , moulin , possibly leuse, after designs françois boucher. worked full-scale cartoons jean-joseph dumons, , woven 9 times, first in 1743 , last in 1775, when rococo pastorale galante have begun seem bit stale. chinese fair series, @ cleveland, illustrated landau 1983, fig. 20.
