biography
early life

born peasant family @ filipovo in nizhny novgorod oblast, drafted imperial army in may 1915 , participated in first world war. after being wounded in area of riga @ 1917, kazakov transferred reserve unit in st. peterburg. there, took part in february revolution. when army dissolved, following october revolution, demobilized. kazakov volunteered join newly established red army, commanded artillery battery throughout russian civil war , polish-soviet war. in 1925, kazakov graduated artillery academy of moscow, joining all-union communist party(b) @ 1932. 2 years later finished studies in frunze academy. on 7 may 1940, promoted rank of major general.


world war ii

at beginning of great patriotic war, commanded 7th mechanized corps artillery formations. kazakov took part in battles smolensk , moscow, , developed new methods use of anti-tank artillery, adopted entire army. in july 1942 made rokossovsky s artillery commander @ bryansk front. in capacity, continued work general @ stalingrad, don, central , 1st belorussian fronts. on 17 november 1942, became lieutenant general, , made colonel-general on 18 september 1943. kazakov among planners of kursk deep defense lines. participated in lower dnieper offensive, in operation bagration , in battles inside germany. contribution vistula-oder offensive, kazakov awarded title hero of soviet union (medal no. 5871) on 6 april 1945.


post-war career

after war, commanded artillery formations of gsfg, , beginning in march 1950 first deputy commander of artillery corps. in january 1952 became commander, demoted deputy again in april 1953. kazakov promoted rank of marshal on 11 march 1955, commanding ground forces air defence 1958 until 1965. after 3 more years inspector in ministry of defense, died in moscow, aged 69, in may 1968.
