the fur institute founded in 1983 on initiative of federal, provincial , territorial wildlife ministers pursue work of federal-provincial committee humane trapping. fic governed elected board of directors representing sectors of industry , stakeholder groups.

conservation

through policy development, evaluation, education , advocacy committee furthers principles of wise , sustainable use , of applied management in relation furbearers , habitats. committee works in cooperation wildlife agencies , conservation groups.


international relations

by monitoring , participating in international activities on trapping, fur ranching, fur use , trade committee able apprise , advise members , stakeholders. includes, not limited to, monitoring policies , activities of international organizations , governments affecting wildlife management or international trade, , participating in international forums, such iucn , cites. committee charged managing implementation in canada of 1997 agreement on international humane trapping standards (aihts) , provides canadian representative joint management committee implementation of aihts.


communications

the fic delivers , develops information , resources directed institute membership, fur trade, other conservation , animal welfare organizations , public sector, including media, schools, federal, provincial , territorial governments , general public.


it member of north american fur industry communications group (nafic), established in 2013 cooperative public educational program fur industry in canada , usa. nafic disseminates information via internet under brand name “truth fur”.

aboriginal communications

the committee mandated inform canada’s aboriginal trappers of important developments in fur sector, particularly relating international humane trapping standards , results of trap research , testing program. committee facilitates communications , promotes joint programs between aboriginal trappers , provincial , territorial wildlife agencies. aboriginal organizations, governments , industry kept informed of issues of concern aboriginal communities, trappers , fur trade.


sealing

the sealing committee ensures factual information on seals , sealing in canada made available primary sources, on timely basis, general public, media , legislators in canada , around world. committee facilitates seals , sealing network (ssn).
