in 1907, great white fleet ordered u.s. president theodore roosevelt circle world, demonstration of might of united states navy. kentucky attached fourth division of second squadron, , commanded captain walter c. cowles, while fleet whole commanded rear admiral evans, kentucky s former flag officer. on 16 december 1907, fleet saluted presidential yacht mayflower, , left hampton roads. fleet sailed south, passing trinidad , rio de janeiro, , going through straits of magellan. there passed west coast of south america, visiting punta arenas , valparaíso, chile, callao, peru, , magdalena bay, mexico. fleet arrived @ san diego on 14 april 1908 , continued san francisco on 6 may. 2 months later arrived @ honolulu, , there sailed auckland, new zealand, arriving on 9 august. on 20 august, fleet reached sydney, australia, , week later sailed melbourne.
kentucky departed albany, western australia, on 18 september, passing through ports in philippine islands, japan, china, , ceylon before traveling through suez canal. fleet split @ port said on 8 january 1909, kentucky visiting tripoli , algiers before rejoining other ships @ gibraltar. returned hampton roads on 22 february, , inspected president roosevelt.
