westholm recruited einar gjerstad swedish cyprus expedition. given responsibility lead 1 of 2 excavation teams. westholm carried out excavations in following places: soli, milia, vouni, petra tou limniti, ajios jakovos (iron age site), kition, kythrea, amathus , mersinaki. during stay in cyprus, westholm wrote many letters home parents. these letters have been published in book form, , give unique insight expedition s work , daily life. after expedition s excavations formally completed, westholm, of crown prince gustaf adolf s influence, able continue , dug out soli cholades site, 6 different temples dug out. these subject of dissertation temples of soli (1936), @ stockholm university.


after returning home, westholm served head of home-owned cyprus collections in stockholm until 1944. major part of work processing of expedition s results publication swedish cyprus expedition.


westholm honored order of vasa in 1937. same year, represented sweden @ international congress on excavation , memorial legislation, organized league of nations in cairo. during 1930 s worked editor of publication of former diggings in asine. in 1940, westholm arranged exhibition before fidias @ historical museum in stockholm. of exhibits collected cyprus collections. responsible work of exhibition 10,000 years in sweden in same museum in 1943. during world war ii, westholm secretary committee aimed @ collecting money in support of people of occupied greece. half million kronor collected.


from 1944 1947, westholm served in first laboratory @ gothenburg art museum. served head of same institution until retirement in 1969. in 1956, traveled on behalf of unesco peru plan new art museum in capital lima. in 1958, took on responsibility unfinished swedish excavations in labranda, turkey. westholm became professor in 1966.


from 1969 1973, served director of swedish institute of istanbul.
