in 1987, group acquired combined english stores , grattan catalogue company. extending first introduce next childrenswear, davies introduced next directory.


by 1988, after 7 years of growth, next had over-expanded suicidally .. stores not bringing in enough pay rent. davies sacked , share price fell 7p. chairman sir david jones, accused him of being egotistical , taking next verge of bankruptcy.
