inaugural game

the inaugural game played on saturday, march 31, 2007 @ 5:30 p.m. , broadcast nationally on espn , espnhd. announced espn s #1 broadcast team of jon miller , joe morgan, peter gammons serving field analyst (his role during sunday night baseball telecasts on espn). game featured st. louis cardinals , cleveland indians. both teams wore uniforms reminiscent of worn in negro league games. cardinals won 5–1, receiving solid five-inning start out of 2006 closer adam wainwright, got win.


selig came under heavy fire native americans, feel involvement of cleveland indians slap in face cherokee people still live in memphis area after infamous trail of tears passed through less 200 years ago. new york daily news called situation primer on how inadvertently stage ironic insult local , large population of natives , insinuated league has (inadvertently) sabotaged game inviting indians. sports blog deadspin asked question if indians win, native americans civil rights?


2008 game

on december 3, 2007, league officials announced details second annual game. played on march 29, 2008. new york mets beat chicago white sox 3–2. martin luther king iii threw out first pitch. has been lowest attended game, date, because held @ minor league park during cool, rainy weather.


2009 game

on june 20, 2009, civil rights game played first time part of regular season schedule. game took place @ great american ball park in cincinnati between host cincinnati reds , chicago white sox. white sox defeated reds, 10–8. game, teams wore replicas of 1965 uniforms. white sox became first team participate in 2 civil rights games. game broadcast on mlb network except in home markets of 2 teams played in game, cincinnati (fsn ohio) , chicago (csn chicago).


as of end of 2011 season, game marks last time white sox have worn white socks.
