clackline bridge historic road bridge in clackline carried great eastern highway until 2008. bridge in western australia have spanned both waterway , railway, clackline brook , former eastern railway alignment. timber bridge has unique curved , sloped design, due difficult topography , route of former railway. bridge designed in 1934 replace 2 dangerous rail crossings , rudimentary water crossing. construction began in january 1935, , completed relatively quickly, opening ceremony held in august 1935. bridge has undergone various improvement , maintenance works since then, including widening 3 metres (10 ft) in 1959–60, remained safety hazard, increasing severity , numbers of accidents through 1970s , 1980s. planning highway bypass of clackline , clackline bridge began in 1990s, , constructed between january 2007 , february 2008. local community had been concerned historic bridge lost, remains in use part of local road network, , has been listed on both northam municipal heritage inventory , heritage council of western australia s register of heritage places.
