jack mcdowall born on june 26, 1905 in micanopy, florida j. w. mcdowall , m. d. younglove. jack played high school ball in gainesville, florida @ rockingham hs in north carolina. took both schools appearances in state championship game. after having starred @ gainesville, deemed small ever scholarship university of florida though 6 feet 1 inch tall. @ gainesville pool hall j.b. shorty lawrence, floridian coaching in nc, walked in , offered him chance play @ rockingham $25 week, leading chance play nc state.

he led wolfpack 9–1 mark , southern conference championship in 1927 under coach gus tebell. mcdowall threw 14 of wolfpack s 31 touchdowns. in 12 6 win in tampa on hometown florida gators, ran 75 yards touchdown after intercepting ball off gator s hands. season closed convincing defeat of michigan state. selected play on all-southern team beat all-pacific coast team on christmas day in los angeles. georgia tech coach bill alexander said of mcdowall, have talked number of persons know football , have seen mcdowall play. wonder @ running , passing. expect of him when go pacific coast christmas charity game.
