the winterville people made pottery building strips of clay, , smoothing them out, other pottery in eastern american area potters wheel unknown. pottery tempered ground mussel shell, grit, grog, , angular bits of clay. surface treatment ranged carelessly polished finely polished. forms pottery range shallow plate bowls beakers , jars, pieces having animal effigies handles. surface decorations range plain incised s.e.c.c. designs.
