in 1997, in light of declining condition of helicopter fleet, canada launched canadian search , rescue helicopter competition. won eh101, designated ch-149 cormorant in canadian service.


in 2004, eh101 entered canadian competition replace shipboard sea king fleet, sikorsky ch-148 cyclone selected. in 2013, following difficulties ch-148 procurement, royal canadian air force (rcaf) reported considering canceling contract sikorsky , investigating possibility of procuring aw101 instead.
