herron signed four-year deal through 2015 cincinnati bengals on may 23, 2012. on august 31, 2012, cut bengals. on december 4, 2012, herron recalled bengals active roster after spending first part of season on practice squad. on december 13, 2012, herron blocked punt against philadelphia eagles; in same game had first carry. ended game 3 carries 8 yards.

the indianapolis colts signed herron on october 9, 2013. on november 30, 2014, in game against washington redskins, herron recorded first career rushing touchdown, on career-long 49-yard run put indianapolis 14-3. colts ended game 49-27 victory. in first postseason game, herron rushed 12 times 56 yards , touchdown, adding 10 receptions 85 yards colts defeated former team, cincinnati bengals, 26–10. following week, herron touched ball career-high 31 times (23 carries, 8 receptions) , recorded combined 95 yards , 1 rushing touchdown indianapolis defeat denver broncos 24–13. herron tendered contract @ end of season, exclusive-rights free agent. on april 1, signed tender. herron waived injured on september 6, 2015.

on november 26, 2015, herron claimed off waivers indianapolis colts. on march 9, 2016, herron did not receive tender colts, making him free agent.
