the present station building.
the central component of present station building main hall, extends through basement, access platforms through 2 tunnels (north tunnel , south tunnel). there access main hall underground parking station (and then, via pedestrian tunnel, hotel europa , escalators bus , tram terminals), and, via additional pedestrian tunnel, bus station , local shops. on northern side, station building adjoins office building.
the striking frescoes max weiler, few centimetres of underlying masonry, removed 1950s station building in 1 piece , remounted in new concourse.
almost simultaneously construction of new station building, public transport hub created in station forecourt, paved red-colored asphalt (and nicknamed red square ). new hub serves innsbruck tramway network, regional , urban bus lines, , narrow gauge stubai valley railway. @ time created, rail junction built @ southern end of square proposed new tram route towards south, construction of new route deferred.
